A never realized revival.

Emergo is an original design from Sem Hartz, Jan van Krimpen’s successor at Joh. Enschedé.

Hartz designed it while in hiding during World War II. It was finished in 1949 but never released. Hartz only used it in publications of his Tuinwijkpers press.

Emergo was only produced in 12 point size. It is a contemporary typeface with classical proportions and pronounced serifs. Hartz initially designed it for use with print books
on his desired private press.
